Sources and Uses of New Investments in the U.S.

In the midst of heated global competition for jobs and capital investment, U.S. and foreign companies spent more than $1.2 trillion on U.S. business facilities and equipment during 2004, setting record levels of capital investment and surpassing annual fixed capital investment by domestic and foreign companies for the first time since 2000.

In this context Ernst & Young developed the 2004 U.S. Investment Monitor (USIM), the inaugural issue of its annual analysis of major U.S. capital investments, business location decisions, and related employment. The analysis links project information to investor operating and financial data provides multidimensional insights about geographic dynamics driving business investments in the U.S.
