Sameer Desai advises clients in the areas of cross-border and domestic outsourcing transactions, and complex licensing arrangements. Desai also advises clients on issues relating to foreign investments in India and technology transfer transactions with Indian companies.
Desai counsels both providers and users in domestic and multi-jurisdictional outsourcing and offshoring transactions. Early in his practice, Desai was an in-house counsel for two of India’s largest conglomerates, thereby acquiring a detailed understanding of the client’s core business requirements and the legal issues related to fulfilling them. Desai also advises U.S. companies on legal and tax aspects of doing business in India.
Desai recently co-authored “Compliance Risks in Outsourcing for Healthcare” for the firm’s Pharmaceutical and Healthcare Newsletter in March 2007. He is also the co-author of a recent client alert on proposed amendments to strengthen India’s data protection laws in February 2007. Desai has also spoken to industry groups and legal practitioners on multi-country outsourcing, international software licensing and structuring investments in India.

Desai graduated from Washington University in St. Louis School of Law (J.D., LL.M. in IP, 2006). Desai is also a graduate of the University of Mumbai (LL.B., 1999). He is admitted to practice law in Mumbai, India, and was admitted to practice in Illinois in 2006.
